A full stainless steel finned coil heat exchanger for 400°C oil-to-air applications requires an L-foot, crimped, or laser-welded fin design to withstand extreme thermal cycling. Because thermal oil can degrade and leak, seamless 304 or 316L stainless steel tubes are mandatory to handle high temperatures and aggressive fluids.

For high-temperature applications (up to 400°C), standard brazed aluminum or copper equipment is not suitable due to melting points and thermal expansion limits. Here is how to configure and source a unit built for these operating conditions:

Tube Material: Seamless Stainless Steel 304/304L or 316/316L (gauge thickness suited for your operating pressure).

Fin Material: Stainless Steel (to match the tubes and avoid galvanic corrosion; also ensures no expansion mismatch at 400°C).

Fin Type: L-footed (tightly wound and mechanically locked for good heat transfer up to 250°C), Embedded/Grooved (ideal for temperatures over 250°C to ensure the fin doesn't loosen under thermal expansion), or Extruded/Laser-Welded for maximum ruggedness and corrosion resistance.

Tube-to-Fin Bond: Must be mechanically expanded or welded rather than brazed with low-temperature filler metals.
