In Hydro ASIC Mining applications, Dry Coolers are an efficient and water-saving cooling solution, especially for mining sites where water resources are limited or maintenance costs need to be minimized.


The dry cooler realizes heat exchange through air convection without the need for water as a cooling medium, which is particularly suitable for high humidity or low temperature environments in hydraulic mines:


Heat Transfer Mechanism

The high heat coolant (e.g. dielectric oil) generated by the operation of the mining machine flows through the pipes into the coil of the dry cooler.

Fan-driven ambient air flows over the surface of the coils, absorbing heat from the coolant and discharging it, lowering the temperature of the coolant and circulating it back to the mine.

Typical design can reduce the coolant temperature from 60℃ to 40℃, which can meet the demand of long-term stable operation of the mining machine.

Key Technical Parameters and Selection Points

1. Core Performance Indicators

Cooling capacity: must match the total power consumption of the mining machine. For example, 210 Antminer S21 Hydro miners (total power consumption of 1400kW) need to be equipped with 1200kW dry coolers to ensure stable operation at 30℃.

Environmental Adaptability:

Temperature range: Most devices support -25℃~55℃, freeze-proof models are required for low-temperature areas.

Humidity range: 5%-80% relative humidity can work stably, high humidity environment requires the use of stainless steel coil and anti-corrosion coating.

Noise control:

Large mining sites require low noise design (e.g. 65-76dB@10m) to avoid affecting the surrounding environment.

2. Structural design and materials

Coil material: copper or stainless steel tubing with aluminum fins, taking into account the efficiency of thermal conductivity and corrosion resistance.

Modular design: supports parallel connection of multiple units for easy expansion (e.g. 200kW dry cooler can cover 6 sets of S21 Hydro miners).

Installation: Can be integrated into a containerized mine, saving space and simplifying deployment.


Application Scenarios and Advantages

1. Suitability for Hydro Mining

Water Conservation Needs: No water consumption, suitable for mining sites around hydroelectric power plants or in arid areas, avoiding the high water consumption of water-cooled systems.

High humidity environment: through anti-corrosion design (e.g. galvanized steel housing, anti-corrosion coating), it can operate under 80% humidity for a long time.

Low-temperature scenarios: Supports low-temperature startup (-25°C), no need for additional anti-freezing measures in winter, suitable for high altitude or cold regions.

2. Synergistic solutions with immersion liquid cooling

Hybrid cooling systems: dry coolers are often used as external cooling modules for immersion liquid cooling. For example, the Foghash C2 Kit handles the heat dissipation of 80L of dielectric oil through a dry cooler, achieving a cooling capacity of 12kW@35°C while supporting waste heat recovery (e.g. for heating).

Optimization of energy efficiency: In high temperature environments, the efficiency can be increased in combination with evaporative pre-cooling technology, reducing fan power consumption by 30%.
