Shell-and-tube heat exchangers for steam-heated heavy oil are specially designed for furnace preheating at boiler and burner sections. Widely deployed in thermal power plants, industrial oil-fired boilers and asphalt production plants, these units rely on saturated steam to raise heavy oil temperature and realize qualified fuel combustion.
Working Principle & Core Function
High-temperature steam flows inside heat transfer tubes while high-viscosity raw heavy fuel oil circulates across the shell side. Through continuous heat conduction, the equipment steadily heats heavy oil to a controlled temperature range of 105–120°C.
Temperature rise drastically cuts heavy oil viscosity. When preheated fuel flows through burner nozzles, it achieves fine atomization, enables full combustion and avoids incomplete burning, carbon deposition or black smoke emission.
Why Precise 105~120℃ Preheating Matters
Below target temperature: Heavy oil remains overly viscous, blocks nozzles and causes poor atomization
Excessively high temperature: Risk of oil cracking, coking inside pipeline and safety hazards
Optimized 105–120°C keeps ideal fluidity for smooth pumping and stable burner operation
