Number of Technicians Required to Install Rear Door Heat Exchanger (RDHX)
1. Lifting & Mounting
Lightweight passive RDHX (18–32 kg / 39–70 lbs)
Minimum 2 trained technicians
Two people hold the left & right built-in handles to lift, unpack and hang the door frame.
Standard active RDHX (32–55 kg / 70–121 lbs, mainstream 42U/48U liquid cooling rear door)
Mandatory 3 trained technicians (industry standard)
One person at each end, one supporting the middle grip; required for rotating the horizontal unit upright, carrying to rack rear, aligning hinge pins and fixing brackets. Three-person rule for safety to avoid tilting, deformation or injury.
Heavy-duty high-capacity active RDHX (≥50 kg)
4 technicians minimum
Extra staff to stabilize the bottom water pipe ports and prevent collision during positioning.
2. Full complete installation crew (including plumbing, wiring, commissioning)
After hanging the door body, extra manpower is needed for pipe connection, power wiring, air bleeding and leak testing:
Small single rack retrofit: 3 people total
2 for lifting/mounting + 1 plumbing technician to connect hoses, bleed air and test leakage.
Mass data center batch deployment: 4–5 people per rack group
3 handling the RDHX unit
1 pipe fitter for CDU manifold connection
1 electrician for fan power, temperature sensor wiring & functional debugging
