The condenser and evaporator in the automotive air conditioning system are the core components to realize heat exchange, and they cooperate with the circulation of refrigerant to complete the process of “heat absorption - heat release”, and ultimately realize the cooling inside the car.


The condenser and evaporator of automobile air conditioner usually adopt the structure of “pipe + fin”.


The condenser is the “heat release component” of the automobile air conditioner, which cools the refrigerant from the gas state to the liquid state and releases a large amount of heat. It is usually installed in the front face of the vehicle (in front of the radiator of the water tank), and utilizes the oncoming wind or electronic fan to force heat dissipation when the vehicle is moving.

Working Principle

The refrigerant is compressed into a high temperature and high pressure gaseous state (about 70-100℃, 1.5-2.5MPa) under the action of the compressor, and enters the condenser.

Condenser through the metal pipe and fins and the outside air contact, the gaseous refrigerant will heat transfer to the air (air temperature rises after being blown outside the car), its own condensation to medium temperature and high pressure of the liquid state (about 40-50 ℃).

The liquid refrigerant enters the evaporator through the expansion valve (throttle element) to complete the cycle.


The evaporator is the “heat-absorbing part” of the automobile air conditioner, which is installed in the air conditioning box under the dashboard in the car, and is responsible for absorbing the heat inside the car and lowering the temperature inside the car.

Working Principle

The refrigerant (low-temperature, low-pressure gas-liquid mixture, about 0-5℃, 0.1-0.3MPa) after throttling by the expansion valve enters the evaporator.

The refrigerant evaporates quickly in the evaporator (from liquid to gas), absorbing the heat of the surrounding air, so that the temperature of the air flowing through the evaporator inside the car is reduced (usually down to 10-15 ℃).

The cooled air is sent into the car through the fan to realize cooling; the gaseous refrigerant is sucked in by the compressor to enter the next cycle.
