Air Cooled Conditioning Unit Condenser Coil
In the air conditioning refrigeration process, the refrigerant is discharged from the compressor at a high temperature and pressure. The main function of the condenser coil is to dissipate the heat of the gaseous refrigerant into the surrounding air, cooling and liquefying the refrigerant. This allows the refrigerant to be depressurised in a subsequent throttling device in preparation for heat absorption in the evaporator.
When the high-temperature, high-pressure gaseous refrigerant enters the condenser coil, the heat of the refrigerant is first conducted through the pipe walls to the fins. Since the fins have a large contact area with the surrounding air, heat is transferred from the fins to the surrounding air.
The air flows continuously through the condenser coil under the action of a fan (usually part of an air-cooled air conditioning unit), taking away the heat from the fins. In this way, the refrigerant is gradually cooled in the coil, changing from a gaseous state to a liquid state.
For example, in a typical domestic air-cooled air conditioning system, the condenser coil is installed in the outdoor unit. After the high-temperature refrigerant discharged from the compressor enters the coil, a fan in the outdoor unit blows cool outdoor air across the coil. The cold air absorbs the heat from the coil and fins and then increases in temperature and is discharged into the surrounding environment, while the refrigerant is cooled and liquefied in the coil.
