The shell and tube heat exchanger is a mainstream core device for air compressor waste heat recovery, widely matched with screw, reciprocating and centrifugal compressors of medium and large power. It recovers high-temperature heat from compressor lubricating oil and hot compressed air to heat cold water for domestic use, production cleaning and workshop heating. Compared with plate heat exchangers, shell-and-tube models feature stronger pressure resistance, wider flow channels and lower risk of clogging, ideal for long-term 24-hour continuous operation of industrial compressor stations.
Working Principle
High-temperature compressor lubricating oil flows inside the heat transfer tubes, while cooling water circulates through the shell side outside the tubes. Efficient heat exchange occurs between oil and water, heating cold water to 50–85°C for recycling. After heat release, the cooled lubricant oil flows back to the compressor circulation system to maintain normal operating temperature of the unit. When hot water demand is saturated, it can cooperate with auxiliary cooling equipment to realize safe temperature control of the compressor.
Core Advantages
Excellent Anti-Clogging Performance
Large independent flow channels for oil and water, not easy to accumulate oil sludge, sediment and impurities. Suitable for compressor stations with poor water quality and unfiltered lubricating oil.
High Pressure & Temperature Resistance
Integral welding structure, standard design pressure up to 1.6MPa, customized maximum 4.0MPa. Stable operation under oil temperature 90–180°C, no deformation or leakage under long-term high-load working conditions.
Long Service Life & Low Failure Rate
Multiple material options: carbon steel, 304 stainless steel, 316L stainless steel tubes and shells. Good oil resistance, high temperature resistance and anti-corrosion performance, service life up to 10–15 years.
Large Heat Recovery Capacity
Suitable for single or multiple combined large-power compressors (200HP–1000HP). Large heat exchange area, stable heat output without sharp temperature fluctuation under variable load.
Simple Structure & Low Maintenance Cost
Conventional detachable design, easy to open the tube bundle for regular cleaning of dirt inside tubes and shell side; fewer vulnerable parts, reducing annual maintenance expense.
Wide Compatibility
Can be connected in series/parallel for multi-compressor centralized waste heat recovery systems, compatible with air-cooled and water-cooled compressor original cooling circuits.
