The economiser usually consists of a set of pipes and heat exchange surfaces. Flue gases from the combustion chamber of the boiler flow through the economiser through the pipes, contacting the economiser surfaces and transferring heat to reduce the temperature of the flue gases, while the boiler feed water flows through the economiser, thus absorbing the heat transferred by the flue gases. This reduces the temperature of the boiler feed water, reduces the heat loss of the fuel and improves the thermal efficiency of the whole boiler system.
