For a PED-certified cold room evaporator, the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) applies only to the components that contain or are exposed to pressurized refrigerant. Specifically:

Parts Covered Under PED:

  1. Evaporator Coils / Tubing

    • All refrigerant-carrying tubes, headers, and manifolds.

    • Includes bends, fins, and connections that are pressurized during operation.

  2. Pressure Vessels (if any)

    • Any integrated expansion chambers or receiver sections designed to hold refrigerant under pressure.

  3. End Caps, Headers, and Manifolds

    • Parts forming the closed circuit under pressure.

  4. Connections and Fittings

    • Brazed, welded, or mechanical joints that contain pressurized refrigerant.

    • Includes service valves or inlet/outlet ports that operate under system pressure.

Parts Typically NOT Covered by PED:

  • Evaporator frame or casing (if not pressurized)

  • Fan motors, fan guards, and drain pans

  • Electrical components (thermostats, controllers, sensors)

  • External insulation
