Precision Cooling for Modular & Container Data Centers | CSTHEATEXCHANGER

A modular or containerised data center — or any container shelter holding IT, telecom or control equipment — has its cooling designed in at the factory, not added on site: the units must fit the module's narrow geometry, discharge where the racks need it, reject heat through the shell to outside, survive transport, and run unattended wherever the module lands. For air-cooled modules that means compact in-row or wall-mounted precision air conditioners with external condensers on the roof or end wall, a fresh-air free-cooling path, and N+1 units in joint control; for dense modules it means rear door coils or liquid cooling with dry coolers outside, and precision units handling residual load and humidity. CSTHEATEXCHANGER manufactures both the precision air conditioners (24×365, 15–27 °C supply control, fresh-air free cooling, protection and joint control, open protocol) and the complete liquid-cooled 40HQ container data center, so cooling for a modular or container unit is specified, fitted and tested by the same manufacturer that builds the box.

Cooling arrangements inside a module or container

Arrangement

Description

CSTHEATEXCHANGER product

In-row precision units

Compact precision ACs between racks, pulling hot-aisle air and discharging to the cold aisle; short air path; containment by the container walls

Precision Air Conditioner (compact)

Wall-mounted precision units

Units on the container side wall discharging across the racks; condensers outside the same wall or on the roof

Precision Air Conditioner

End-wall units with cold-aisle duct

Units at one end feeding a contained cold aisle along the container

Precision Air Conditioner; Fan Wall Unit for larger modules

Rear door cooling

Coils on each rack door; water/glycol loop to external dry cooler; room units for residual

Rear Door Cooling Coils + Dry Cooler + small precision unit

Liquid-cooled module

Direct-to-chip or immersion; CDU and plate HX inside; dry cooler outside

Liquid Cooled Container Data Center (up to 420 devices per 40HQ)

Free cooling

Fresh-air path through filtered wall louvres replaces compressor operation when outdoor air is cool enough

Standard on our precision units

What a container shelter demands of its precision AC

Demand

Response

Fits the geometry

Compact units; wall or in-row; condensers on roof/end wall; pipework pre-run at factory

Transport

Units braced; refrigerant lines secured; pre-charged or charged on site

Sealed shell

Fresh-air path filtered and dampered; positive pressure option; condensate drained outside

Climate anywhere

Condensers sized for site peak ambient; coated fins for coastal/industrial; low-ambient kit for cold sites

Unattended

Joint control N+1; alarms via open protocol; auto-restart

Energy

Free cooling; EC fans; tight control

Factory test

Cooling commissioned with the module before shipment

Fleet

Standard module design repeated; one spares holding

Modular data center versus telecom/control shelter — what differs

Modular data center

Container shelter (telecom, control, industrial)

Load

Higher, denser; may be AI

Lower; radio, transmission, PLCs, drives

Humidity

Controlled band

Controlled; dry for electrical gear

Redundancy

N+1 or 2N

N+1 typical

Liquid option

Yes — rear door, DTC, immersion

Rarely

Fresh air

Free cooling where filtration allows

Free cooling common — big fuel saving at remote sites

Frequently asked questions — modular and container precision cooling — CSTHEATEXCHANGER

How is a modular data center cooled?

In-row or wall-mounted precision units with external condensers for air-cooled modules; rear door coils or liquid cooling with dry coolers for dense modules — all factory-fitted.

Can the container use free cooling?

Yes — a filtered fresh-air path lets CSTHEATEXCHANGER precision units replace compressor operation when outdoor air is cool enough.

What about dense AI modules?

Rear door cooling or our liquid-cooled container data center with CDU, heat exchangers and dry coolers.

Is the cooling tested before the container ships?

Yes — fitted and commissioned with the module at the factory.

Does CSTHEATEXCHANGER build the container too?

Yes — the liquid-cooled 40HQ container data center is our product; for air-cooled shelters we supply and integrate the precision units.

Specify precision cooling for your module or container with CSTHEATEXCHANGER

Send CSTHEATEXCHANGER the container size and rack layout, IT or equipment load, site climate, redundancy level and whether liquid cooling is in scope. We will return a factory-fitted cooling configuration for approval.
