In thermal testing chambers, precise and stable air temperature control is essential. An air-to-water heat exchanger (hot water heating coil) is a reliable solution for raising the temperature of recirculated air inside environmental or thermal test chambers. By transferring heat from hot water to the circulating air stream, the heat exchanger provides efficient and controllable heating.
In this application, the chamber operates with 100% recirculated air, which improves energy efficiency and allows faster temperature stabilization. The heating coil is installed in the air circulation path, where it raises the air temperature before the air returns to the test chamber.
The system must deliver 45 kW of thermal power to increase the air temperature from 36 °C to 60 °C.
The air-side parameters determine the required heat transfer surface and airflow performance.
Air type: 100% recirculated air
Inlet air temperature: 36 °C
Required outlet air temperature: 60 °C
The heat exchanger must provide sufficient surface area and optimized fin geometry to achieve the desired temperature rise while maintaining acceptable air-side pressure drop.
Hot water serves as the heating medium. As heat is transferred to the air, the water temperature decreases across the coil.
Heating medium: Hot water
Water inlet temperature: 80 °C
Water outlet temperature: 65 °C
These conditions provide the required heat transfer to support the 45 kW heating load.
A typical air-to-water heat exchanger for thermal chamber heating includes:
Copper tubes with aluminum fins or stainless-steel construction for durability
Optimized fin spacing to balance heat transfer and airflow resistance
Multi-row coil configuration to increase heat transfer efficiency
Compact frame design suitable for integration into chamber air ducts
Proper coil design ensures stable air temperature control and uniform heat distribution inside the chamber.
Air-to-water heating coils offer several benefits:
High thermal efficiency
Accurate temperature control
Low operating cost
Reliable continuous operation
Compatibility with industrial hot-water systems
These advantages make air-to-water heat exchangers a preferred heating solution for thermal chambers, environmental testing equipment, industrial drying systems, and recirculating air heating processes.
