What is an AHU coil?
An AHU coil, also known as an air handler coil or a cooling coil, is a component in an air handling unit (AHU) that is responsible for cooling and dehumidifying the air that flows through it. The AHU coil is typically made up of a network of copper tubing that is bent into a series of coils or fins, and is surrounded by a metal casing. The AHU coil is designed to be connected to a refrigeration system or a chilled water system, which cools the coil and in turn cools the air that passes over or through it.
When warm air flows over the AHU coil, the heat in the air is absorbed by the cool refrigerant or chilled water circulating through the coil, which cools the air and removes moisture (condensation) from the air. The cooled and dehumidified air is then sent back into the building through the AHU ductwork. In this way, the AHU coil plays an important role in regulating the temperature and humidity of the air in a building and is a key component in many HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems.
