UAE Customer Procures Dry Cooler with Wet Curtain from Vrcoolertech CST


In water-scarce areas, although the traditional dry cooler can avoid a lot of water, but in the summer high temperature (such as outdoor more than 35 ℃), only by the air sensible heat exchange of the cooling efficiency will be greatly reduced, may not meet the cooling needs of the data center. The design of “dry cooler with wet curtain” through “a small amount of water evaporation to assist cooling” not only retains the water-saving characteristics of the dry cooler, but also improves the cooling efficiency at high temperatures, making it an ideal choice for water-scarce and high-temperature areas.


Wet curtain module: mostly honeycomb paper or polymer material (good water absorption, low ventilation resistance), installed in the air inlet of the dry cooler fan, through the bottom of a small water tank and pump to realize the cycle of water replenishment (the amount of water is only 10-20% of the evaporative cooling).

Humidity / temperature linkage control: when the outdoor temperature is higher than the threshold of efficient heat exchange of the dry cooler (e.g. 25℃), the wet curtain water supply system will be started automatically; when the outdoor humidity is too high (e.g. >80%, low evaporation efficiency), the wet curtain will be shut down to avoid ineffective water consumption.


Low-temperature time (such as spring, fall and winter, outdoor ≤ 25 ℃):

wet curtain does not work, only by the dry cooler's own sensible heat exchange heat dissipation (the same as the traditional dry cooler), at this time there is no water consumption, completely dependent on the natural cold source, the lowest energy consumption.

High temperature and low humidity time (such as summer noon, outdoor 30-40 ℃, humidity <60%):

Wet curtain start: the pump will be a small amount of water (about 0.5-2L/kW heat dissipation load per hour) transported to the top of the wet curtain, the water along the wet curtain flow and the formation of a water film on the surface; outdoor air flows through the wet curtain, the water film evaporates and absorbs heat, so that the air temperature into the dry cooler is reduced by 5-10 ℃ (for example, 35 ℃ outdoor → 25-30 ℃ after the curtain); the cooling of the dry cooler will not work, but only rely on the dry cooler itself apparent heat exchange heat dissipation (the same as the traditional dry cooler). (e.g. outdoor 35℃→25-30℃ after wet curtain); the cooled air then exchanges heat with the coil of the dry cooler, which significantly improves the cooling efficiency of the coolant (it can be reduced by 5-8℃ more).

High temperature and high humidity time (such as the rainy season, outdoor 30 ℃ +, humidity > 80%):

wet curtain off (at this time the water evaporation is difficult, water consumption but no significant cooling effect), switch back to the pure dry cooler mode, to avoid ineffective use of water, only through the fan forced ventilation to maintain the basic heat dissipation (if necessary, can be linked to the chiller to assist for a short period of time).
