Steam Separator in a Coal-Fired Power Plant
Boiler Steam Generation:
Water is heated to produce steam in the boiler, which may contain 3–5% moisture.
First-Stage Separation:
A cyclonic separator at the boiler outlet removes large droplets, sending drier steam to the superheater.
Superheater and Reheater:
Steam is heated further, but minor condensation may occur; impingement separators remove remaining moisture.
Turbine Inlet:
A vane-type separator at the turbine inlet ensures steam moisture content <0.5%, protecting blades from erosion.
Condensate Recovery:
After the turbine, a mesh separator removes moisture from condensate before it’s recycled to the boiler.
