For lithium battery production, desiccant wheel dehumidifiers (often called "air-cooled" or "rotary dehumidifiers") are the industry standard. They are the only technology capable of reliably achieving the ultra-low dew points (as low as -40°C to -80°C) required in a dry room to prevent battery failure or safety hazards .
Unlike standard refrigerant dehumidifiers, these systems use a rotating honeycomb wheel coated with a desiccant (like silica gel or molecular sieve) to physically adsorb moisture from the air. They are specifically designed to handle the aggressive chemicals (like Hydrogen Fluoride) released during battery production .
The system usually operates on a continuous cycle:
Process Air: Wet air passes through the slow-turning rotor; the desiccant traps the moisture.
Regeneration (Reactivation): The saturated section of the wheel rotates into a separate heated airstream (electric or steam), which blasts the trapped moisture out to exhaust .
Cooling: Before entering the room, the air is cooled down to the specific temperature needed for the battery chemistry .
Critical Feature: In lithium production, the air often contains Hydrofluoric acid (HF) . Standard desiccants can corrode. Therefore, specialized "pH-neutral" rotors are required to ensure the equipment doesn't degrade rapidly .
