What is The Relationship Between Fin Pitch and Evaporator Performance?


There is a close relationship between fin pitch and evaporator performance.

Smaller fin pitch:

Increase heat exchange area: more fins can be arranged in a limited space, thus increasing the total heat exchange area and helping to improve the heat exchange capacity of the evaporator.

Enhancement of heat transfer: The velocity and turbulence of the air increases as it flows over the fin surfaces, intensifying heat transfer.

However, there are some disadvantages to smaller fin spacing:

Increased wind resistance: results in increased resistance to air flow, requiring more fan power to drive the air flow, which increases energy consumption.

Prone to frost and dust build-up: Smaller spacing tends to cause frost and dust build-up, reducing heat transfer efficiency and requiring more frequent defrosting and cleaning maintenance.


Larger fin spacing:

Reduced wind resistance: Smoother air flow and relatively low fan energy consumption.

Reduced frost and dust build-up: Reduces the possibility of frost and dust build-up and reduces maintenance frequency.

However, there are disadvantages to larger fin spacing:

Reduced heat transfer area: overall heat transfer capability may be reduced.
