Transformer oil cooler efficiency is affected by the following factors:
Cooling Medium
Types of cooling medium:
Water: the specific heat capacity of water is larger, good thermal conductivity, as a cooling medium can faster take away the heat of the transformer oil, has a high cooling efficiency. But the use of water cooler need to pay attention to water quality problems, to prevent scaling and corrosion.
Air: air cooler structure is simple, easy to maintain, but the specific heat capacity of air and thermal conductivity is relatively poor, the cooling efficiency is low. Its cooling effect is greatly affected by the ambient temperature and air flow rate.
Cooling medium temperature and flow:
Temperature: the lower the temperature of the cooling medium, the greater the temperature difference with the transformer oil, the higher the heat exchange efficiency. For example, in the summer high temperature environment, the water temperature is higher, the efficiency of the cooler will be reduced; and in winter, the water temperature is lower, the cooling effect is relatively good.
Flow: the larger the flow of the cooling medium, the larger the contact time and area with the transformer oil, and the heat exchange efficiency will be increased. But the flow is too large may increase the system resistance and energy consumption.
Cooler Structure
Heat dissipation area: the larger the heat dissipation area of the cooler, the stronger the ability of heat exchange. The number, shape and arrangement of the heat sink will affect the heat dissipation area. For example, increasing the number of heat sinks, using corrugated or finned heat sinks and other designs can improve the heat dissipation area, thus improving the efficiency of the cooler.
Air duct design: For air coolers, the design of the air duct directly affects the air flow and heat dissipation effect. Reasonable air duct design can ensure that the air flows evenly through the heat sink, improve the heat exchange efficiency. At the same time, reducing the resistance of the air duct also helps to increase the air flow rate and enhance the cooling effect.
Sealing: Good sealing of the cooler can prevent the cooling medium from leaking and ensure the normal operation of the cooling system. If there is leakage of the cooler, it will not only reduce the cooling efficiency, but also may pose a threat to the safe operation of the transformer.
Transformer Load
Load size: the greater the load of the transformer, the more heat is generated, the need for the cooler to take away the heat is also a corresponding increase. In the case of high load, the efficiency of the cooler will be a greater test. If the capacity of the cooler is insufficient, it may not be able to effectively reduce the temperature of the transformer oil in a timely manner, thus affecting the normal operation of the transformer.
Load change rate: the change rate of transformer load will also affect the efficiency of the cooler. When the load suddenly increases, the temperature of the transformer oil will rise rapidly, and the cooler needs to increase the cooling capacity in a shorter period of time. If the response rate of the cooler is slow, it may not be able to adapt to the changes in the load in time, resulting in high transformer oil temperature.
Environmental Factors
Ambient temperature: the ambient temperature has a significant impact on the efficiency of the cooler. In a high-temperature environment, the temperature difference between the cooling medium and the surrounding environment is reduced, the heat exchange efficiency is reduced. At the same time, the high temperature environment will also make the cooler's own temperature rise, further affecting the cooling effect. For example, in the hot summer, the efficiency of the air cooler will be significantly reduced, and the water temperature of the water cooler will also increase, resulting in a weakening of the cooling capacity.
Altitude: At high altitudes, where the air is thin and the air pressure is low, the cooling capacity of the air is reduced. For air coolers, this reduces their cooling effect. In addition, the ambient temperature at high altitude varies greatly, which can also have an impact on the efficiency of the cooler.
Dust and debris: If there is a large amount of dust and debris in the environment around the cooler, it may block the heat sinks or air ducts, affecting air flow and heat exchange efficiency. Regular cleaning and maintenance of the cooler can effectively prevent the impact of dust and debris on the efficiency of the cooler.
