A tube-fin evaporator is a heat exchanger in an automotive air conditioning refrigeration cycle. Its function is to allow low-temperature, low-pressure liquid refrigerant to evaporate (boil) within it, absorbing heat from the warm air flowing over the evaporator surface, thereby achieving cooling and reducing air humidity.
Working Principle:
Refrigerant Side: Low-temperature, low-pressure atomized refrigerant, ejected from the expansion valve, enters the evaporator's manifold.
The refrigerant is evenly distributed into each flat tube.
During its flow through the flat tubes, the refrigerant absorbs heat from the fins, completely evaporating into a gas, and may continue to absorb heat, becoming superheated gas.
The superheated gas is collected in the outlet manifold and then drawn away by the compressor.
Air Side: Under the action of the blower, warm, humid air from the passenger compartment is forced across the evaporator's fin surface.
Heat in the air is transferred through the aluminum fins and flat tube walls to the low-temperature refrigerant flowing inside.
The air temperature drops rapidly due to heat loss.
When the air temperature drops below its dew point, water vapor in the air condenses on the cold fin surface, forming water droplets, thus achieving dehumidification.
The cooled and dried air is then delivered into the vehicle compartment through the air duct.
In summary: The refrigerant absorbs heat and evaporates inside the pipes, while the air outside the pipes is cooled and dehumidified.
