Process Parameters

Temperature Requirements: Define the specific temperature requirements for each stage of palm oil production, including preheating temperature, evaporation temperature, fractionation temperature, condensation temperature, etc. For example, the evaporation stage may require the material to be heated to 80 - 100℃. For example, the evaporation process may require the material to be heated to 80 - 100℃, the heat exchanger needs to be able to work stably in this temperature range and have enough heating capacity.

Flow demand: According to the scale of palm oil production and material flow, calculate the required flow capacity of the heat exchanger. In large-scale production, the material flow is large, and it is necessary to choose the heat exchanger with large pipe diameter and reasonable design of pipe and shell range to ensure that the material can pass smoothly and meet the heat transfer requirements.

Pressure requirements: Considering the pressure changes in the production process, the heat exchanger needs to be able to withstand the corresponding pressure to avoid leakage and other problems. For example, in some high-pressure evaporation or condensation process, the finned tube heat exchanger should be selected with appropriate pressure resistance level.


Heat Transfer Performance

Heat transfer coefficient: Select finned tube heat exchanger with high heat transfer coefficient to improve heat transfer efficiency and reduce equipment volume and investment cost. The shape, material and spacing of fins will affect the heat transfer coefficient, such as serrated fins and corrugated fins have relatively high heat transfer coefficient.

Heat load: Calculate the heat load of the heat exchanger according to the heat transfer demand in the palm oil production process. Ensure that the heat load of the selected heat exchanger can meet the requirements of the production process, in order to ensure that the material can reach the required temperature within the specified time.


Material selection

Pipe material: Because palm oil has a certain corrosiveness, especially in some high temperature, acid and alkali environment, need to choose corrosion-resistant pipe material. Commonly used are stainless steel, copper-nickel alloy and so on. Stainless steel has good corrosion resistance and mechanical properties, suitable for most of the palm oil production environment; copper-nickel alloy in seawater corrosion resistance and other special environments better performance.

Fin material: fin material should be matched with tube material to ensure good heat transfer performance and corrosion resistance. Generally speaking, aluminum fins have the advantages of light weight, good thermal conductivity, relatively low price, etc., which is suitable for general palm oil production environment; while in some high temperature, high corrosive environment, you can choose stainless steel fins.

Structural design

Fin shape: Common fin shapes include flat fins, corrugated fins, serrated fins and so on. Corrugated fins and serrated fins can increase the degree of turbulence of the fluid to improve heat transfer efficiency, but the resistance is relatively large; flat fins have less resistance and are suitable for occasions with lower resistance requirements.

Tube arrangement: tube arrangement will affect the heat transfer performance of the heat exchanger and fluid distribution uniformity. Commonly, there are two kinds of rows and fork rows, the heat transfer effect of the fork row arrangement is generally better than the rows, but the resistance is also relatively large, according to the specific process requirements and fluid characteristics of the choice.


Maintenance and Operation

Cleaning convenience: During palm oil production, heat exchangers are prone to fouling and require regular cleaning. Choosing a heat exchanger with simple structure and easy to disassemble and clean can reduce the maintenance cost and difficulty, and improve the operation efficiency of the equipment.

Operation stability: the operation of the heat exchanger should be simple and stable, with good self-control performance, able to automatically adjust the temperature, flow rate and other parameters according to the changes in the production process to ensure the continuity and stability of the production process.


Other factors

Space layout: Consider the space size and layout of the production workshop, choose the appropriate size and shape of the heat exchanger, to ensure that it can be installed in the designated location, and easy to connect the pipeline and equipment maintenance.

Price and cost-effectiveness: Under the premise of meeting process requirements and quality standards, consider the price of the heat exchanger, operating costs, maintenance costs and other factors, and select cost-effective products. At the same time, the service life of the equipment and return on investment should be considered to avoid choosing poor quality products due to greed for cheap, resulting in frequent maintenance and replacement in the later stage, increasing the total cost.
