One of the screw compressor's key components, the lubricant cooler is responsible for controlling and cooling the lubricant's temperature inside the compressor. When in use, screw compressors produce a lot of heat and are employed in many different industrial settings. The lubricant can be deteriorated by excessive heat, which could harm the equipment and limit compressor efficiency. In order to keep the compressor running at its ideal temperature, lube oil coolers aid in heat dissipation.
1. Heat Dissipation:
Hot Oil Circulation: The lubricating oil circulates through the compressor, lubricating moving parts and absorbing heat generated during compression.
Coolant Flow: The lube oil cooler is equipped with tubes or channels through which a cooling fluid, such as water or a refrigerant, flows. The hot oil passes over these tubes, and the heat is transferred from the oil to the cooling fluid.
2. Heat Transfer:
Thermal Exchange: As the hot lubricating oil flows through the lube oil cooler, it comes into contact with the cool surface of the cooler's tubes or plates. Heat transfers from the oil to the tube walls, and then to the cooling fluid circulating on the other side of the tubes.
Temperature Regulation: The heat transfer process helps regulate the temperature of the lubricating oil, preventing it from becoming too hot. Maintaining the proper oil temperature is crucial for the longevity of the compressor and the efficiency of its operation.
3. Cooling Medium:
Water Cooling: In many industrial applications, water is used as the cooling medium. Water-cooled lube oil coolers are efficient and commonly used in various industries.
Air Cooling: In some cases, especially in smaller or portable compressors, air-cooled lube oil coolers are utilized. These coolers use ambient air to dissipate heat from the lubricating oil.
4. Temperature Control:
Thermostatic Control: Lube oil coolers often incorporate thermostatic control valves or sensors to maintain the desired oil temperature. If the oil temperature exceeds the set limit, the cooling medium flow rate or temperature can be adjusted automatically to regulate the oil temperature within the safe operating range.
