How does a grain cooler work?


A grain cooler is a specialized piece of equipment for grain storage. It lowers the temperature of grain piles through forced air circulation and cooling/dehumidification, thereby suppressing insect infestations and microbial growth, slowing down grain staling and deterioration, reducing storage losses, and lowering the permissible moisture range for stored grain to decrease drying costs. Typically designed for mobility, these units suit various storage structures including flat-roofed warehouses, shallow silos, and vertical silos, serving as a key method for achieving green, scientific grain storage.


Working Principle and Advantages of Grain Coolers

Air Circulation Cooling: The chiller draws air from the silo, cools and dehumidifies it, then returns it through the silo's air inlet to the base of the grain pile. Under negative pressure, the cooled air permeates upward, gradually lowering the grain pile's temperature to achieve low-temperature storage.

Loss Reduction: Low-temperature storage effectively suppresses grain respiration, reducing losses from pests, heating, and mold growth, thereby lowering storage costs.

Preserves Grain Quality: Lower temperatures slow grain metabolism, delaying quality deterioration and aging. This maintains grain color, aroma, and flavor while extending its edible shelf life.

Enhances Storage Safety: By regulating grain pile temperature and minimizing temperature differentials, moisture migration, stratification, and condensation are effectively prevented. Odors are eliminated, ensuring grain pile safety.

Optimizing Drying Processes: Allows higher-moisture grains to enter storage, reducing pre-storage drying requirements, conserving energy, and effectively addressing large pre-storage drying volumes.

Storage Types: Suitable for flat-roofed warehouses, shallow silos, vertical silos, and other storage structures.

Crops: Applicable for low-temperature storage of rice, corn, wheat, oilseeds, and other grains.
