A glycol unit cooler is a type of evaporator designed for low-temperature freezers, typically used in industrial refrigeration, cold storage, and commercial freezer applications. These coolers use a glycol-water mixture (usually propylene or ethylene glycol) as a secondary refrigerant to maintain low temperatures while avoiding issues like freeze-ups in the evaporator.

Key Features of Glycol Unit Coolers for Low-Temperature Freezers:

Material & Construction

Coils: Typically made of copper tubes with aluminum fins for efficient heat transfer.

Housing: Corrosion-resistant casing (stainless steel or coated steel) to withstand harsh low-temp environments.

Glycol Compatibility: Designed to handle glycol mixtures (e.g., 30–40% glycol to prevent freezing).

Temperature Range

Suitable for ultra-low temperatures (down to -40°C or lower) in blast freezers, medical storage, or food processing.

Defrost Mechanism

Hot gas defrost or electric defrost to prevent ice buildup on coils.

Some models use glycol loop defrosting (circulating warm glycol to melt ice).

Airflow & Fan Design

High-efficiency EC (electronically commutated) fans for low energy consumption.

Variable speed fans to optimize cooling and defrost cycles.

Applications

Industrial freezers (meat processing, seafood storage)

Pharmaceutical & biomedical freezers (vaccine storage)

Supermarkets & cold storage warehouses
