Finned‑tube hydrogen cooler (tube‑fin hydrogen surface cooler), gas‑to‑water heat exchanger for large hydrogen‑cooled turbo generators (thermal power, combined‑cycle, nuclear power plant). Hot hydrogen gas flows across external finned tube bundle; cooling water circulates inside tubes. Heat is transferred from hydrogen to circulating plant cooling water, cooled hydrogen circulates back to generator stator & rotor for continuous cooling. VRCOOLER supplies direct replacement units, custom‑built per drawing / original sample, horizontal & vertical configuration available.

Working Principle

Heated hydrogen gas absorbs loss heat from generator windings and core

Hot hydrogen flows cross‑flow over finned tube bundle

Heat transfers to cooling water inside tubes; fins enlarge gas‑side heat transfer area

Cooled hydrogen returns into generator housing for recirculation

Hot cooling water carries heat away to plant cooling tower

Critical safety requirement: Strict gas‑tight construction to avoid hydrogen leakage; no hydrogen‑water cross‑mixing.

Key Construction & Material

Tube: Copper, CuNi90/10, SS304 / SS316L stainless steel

Fin: Aluminum / copper plate fin, ribbon‑wound fin, brazed onto tubes

Tube sheet: Carbon steel, naval brass, stainless steel

Water box / header: Carbon steel or stainless steel

Frame: Heavy‑duty carbon steel, anti‑vibration reinforced for long‑term continuous running

Tube joint: Roller expanded for tight sealing against hydrogen leakage
