Elliptical Tube Finned Tube Heat Exchanger in Power Industry


Elliptical tube finned tube heat exchanger is widely used in the power industry, mainly due to its high efficiency of heat transfer performance and excellent aerodynamic characteristics, to meet the power production process of the stringent requirements of the heat transfer equipment. The following are the applications of elliptical tube and finned tube heat exchanger in power industry.


Air Preheater

Application Scenario: In coal-fired or gas-fired power plants, air preheaters are used to preheat the combustion air entering the boiler to improve combustion efficiency and reduce fuel consumption.

Advantages: Elliptical tube finned tube heat exchanger has higher heat transfer efficiency and is able to provide a larger heat transfer area in a smaller volume. At the same time, elliptical tubes offer lower resistance to airflow, helping to reduce fan energy consumption and improve overall system efficiency.


Condenser

Application Scenario: Condenser is one of the key equipments in a thermal power plant, which is used to condense the low pressure steam from the steam turbine into water for recycling back to the boiler for reuse.

Benefits: The elliptical tube design allows the condenser to provide a larger condensing area in the same space, increasing condensing efficiency, reducing condenser size and weight, and reducing installation and maintenance costs. At the same time, the lower fluid resistance helps to reduce the flow loss of cooling water.


Turbine Exhaust Cooling

Application Scenario: In the turbine exhaust cooling system, the heat exchanger is used to reduce the temperature of the exhaust steam to prevent turbine damage due to high temperature.

Advantages: The high heat transfer performance of elliptical finned tube heat exchanger can take away the waste heat from the exhaust steam more effectively, and its low airflow resistance can reduce the pressure drop to the exhaust system and optimise the turbine's operating efficiency.


Waste Heat Recovery

Application Scenario: Power plants generate a large amount of waste heat in the process of power generation, and the waste heat recovery system can recycle this heat and improve the overall energy utilisation rate.

Benefits: Elliptical tube and finned tube heat exchangers are able to efficiently recover low-grade heat and use it in other processes or auxiliary equipment (e.g., heating or preheating), which significantly improves the energy efficiency of the power plant.


Boiler Economiser

Application Scenario: In a boiler economiser, a heat exchanger is used to preheat the boiler feed water to reduce the fuel consumption of the boiler.

Benefits: Elliptical finned tube heat exchangers provide high heat transfer coefficients in a limited space, ensuring that the feedwater temperature is as close to the steam temperature as possible, thus improving the overall thermal efficiency of the boiler.
