Dry Coolers for Immersion Cooling


A Dry Cooler is a type of heat exchange equipment that is commonly used in immersion cooling systems. Immersion cooling is a method of lowering the temperature of electronic equipment, motors, transformers and other objects by completely immersing them in a coolant. Dry coolers can be used in this case to absorb heat from the coolant, transfer the heat to the atmosphere, and keep the coolant in the proper temperature range.


Dry coolers work differently from traditional wet cooling towers in that they do not use water evaporation for cooling, but rather by means of air cooling. This is useful in specific applications, such as in arid regions, or in situations where direct contact between the coolant and electronic equipment needs to be avoided.


Dry Cooler for Immersion Cooling


When dry coolers are used for immersion cooling, the following points need to be considered:


1. Heat exchange capacity: The heat exchange capacity of the dry cooler needs to be matched to the heat load of the cooling system to ensure that it can effectively absorb heat from the coolant.


2. Material selection: Dry coolers are usually made from aluminium because of its good thermal conductivity and corrosion resistance to air cooling. However, other materials can be selected to meet specific requirements.


3. Fans and air flow: Dry coolers use fans to push air through the heat exchange surfaces, thereby cooling the heat exchanger. The number and size of fans need to be selected based on the heat load and temperature requirements.


4. Environmental conditions: Consider the environmental conditions in which the dry cooler will be placed, such as temperature, humidity and air quality. These factors will affect the performance and efficiency of the dry cooler.


5. Coolant Circulation: Ensure that the coolant can be circulated efficiently and effectively into the dry cooler. The flow rate of the coolant and how it is circulated is critical to the cooling effect.


6. Maintenance: The dry cooler requires regular cleaning and maintenance to ensure that the fans, heat exchange surfaces and coolant passages are clear.
