Common Failures of Evaporators
The main role of the evaporator is to absorb indoor heat and realize cooling. Through the process of phase change of refrigerant in the evaporator (liquid refrigerant becomes gas), the indoor heat will be transferred to the refrigerant, thus reducing the indoor temperature. During this process, the refrigerant in the evaporator will change from a low-pressure liquid state to a low-pressure gas state, completing the heat exchange process.
Common faults of evaporator
Frost and Icing
When the surface temperature of the evaporator is too low, moisture in the air may frost or freeze on its surface, affecting the heat exchange effect. Icing may lead to a decrease in the cooling effect of the air conditioner or even damage the evaporator.
Dirt Clogging
Long-term lack of cleaning inside or on the surface of the evaporator may lead to clogging with dust and dirt, affecting the heat exchange efficiency. In severe cases, the cooling effect of the air conditioner will be drastically reduced.
Refrigerant leakage
Leakage of refrigerant may be caused by rupture of the internal piping of the evaporator or poor sealing at the interface. Leaking refrigerant not only pollutes the environment, but also leads to poor cooling effect of air conditioning.
Evaporator maintenance methods
Regular cleaning
To keep the evaporator running efficiently, it should be cleaned regularly. For tube and fin evaporator, you can use soft brush or vacuum cleaner to remove the surface dust; for coil evaporator, you can use water or cleaner to clean the surface. Avoid using sharp objects when cleaning to avoid damaging the evaporator surface.
Check the refrigerant
Regularly check the refrigerant charge to ensure that it is sufficient and free from leakage. When a significant drop in cooling effect is noticed, the refrigerant should be checked for leaks. If there is a leak, repair and recharge the refrigerant immediately.
Frost prevention
Monitor the operating status of the evaporator to ensure that the surface temperature is not too low. When frost is found on the surface of the evaporator, immediate measures should be taken, such as adjusting the air conditioning operating parameters to avoid aggravation of frost. During air conditioning operation, turn on the defrost function at the right time to prevent frost from affecting the cooling effect.
Maintain good ventilation
Ensure smooth air circulation around the evaporator to improve heat exchange efficiency. Avoid piling up debris around the evaporator to avoid affecting air circulation. Regularly check the indoor air filter and keep it clean so as not to affect the air quality.
Regular Inspection
Regularly check the evaporator, including pipes, interfaces, insulation materials, etc. If you find problems such as cracked pipes and loose interfaces, you should repair them in time. At the same time, check whether the insulation material is intact, if it is broken, it should be replaced in time.
