What is two-phase immersion cooling?
In two-phase immersion cooling systems, electronic components are immersed in a bath of dielectric heat transfer fluids, which are better heat conductors than air, water or oil. With its various low boiling points (i.e. 49°C versus 100°C in water), the fluid boils at the surface of the heat generating component and the rising vapour is passively responsible for heat transfer.
It is this simplicity that eliminates the need for conventional cooling hardware and increases cooling efficiency. This passive process reduces the use of energy compared to conventional air, water or oil cooling.
This essentially means that the coolant used changes state. During the change of state, it carries heat to the top of the tank in the form of vapourisation. Via the condensing coil, the gas is cooled and falls back into the coolant tank as a liquid to start the process again.
It is also the perfect solution for high density applications using any ASIC or GPU hardware, such as blockchain, HPC, deep learning and cryptocurrency mining (Bitcoin, Ether, Ripple, Litecoin, etc.).
