What Does Rooftop Air Conditioning Unit Mean
Roof-Top Unit (RTU)
A Roof-Top Unit (RTU) is a type of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) equipment that integrates cooling, heating, ventilation and air handling functions and is usually installed on the roof of a building. It is widely used in commercial buildings, industrial facilities, large retail stores, schools, hospitals, etc. It is an efficient and space-saving air conditioning solution.
Main components of a rooftop air conditioning unit
Compressor: Used in the refrigeration cycle to compress the refrigerant.
Evaporator: Absorbs heat from the room to achieve refrigeration.
Condenser: discharges the heat to the outside.
Fans: push air flow, realize ventilation and air circulation.
Filter: filters dust and contaminants from the air.
Heating components (optional): such as gas heaters or electric heaters for winter heating.
Control system: for regulating temperature, humidity and air flow.
Operating Principle
Refrigeration mode:
The compressor compresses the refrigerant into a high temperature and high pressure gas.
The refrigerant is cooled and liquefied in the condenser, releasing heat to the outside.
The liquid refrigerant enters the evaporator through the expansion valve, absorbs the indoor heat and evaporates.
The fan sends cold air into the room to realize cooling.
Heating Mode:
A heating component (e.g. gas heater) heats the air.
The fan sends hot air into the room for heating.
Ventilation mode: The fan introduces fresh outdoor air into the room while discharging dirty indoor air.
Advantages of rooftop air-conditioning units
Saving indoor space: installed on the roof, it does not occupy indoor space.
Convenient installation: modularized design, easy to install and maintain.
Multi-functional integration: integrates cooling, heating, ventilation and air treatment.
Suitable for large buildings: capable of meeting the air conditioning needs of large areas.
Energy saving and high efficiency: Modern RTU adopts inverter technology and high efficiency compressor to reduce energy consumption.
Application Scenarios
Commercial buildings: such as shopping malls, supermarkets, office buildings.
Industrial facilities: such as warehouses, factories.
Public facilities: such as schools, hospitals, gymnasiums.
Catering industry: such as restaurants, hotels.
