Working Principle

A steam air heater transfers heat from saturated or low-pressure steam to the ventilation air stream. Steam flows inside the tubes of the heat exchanger while air passes across the external finned surfaces.

  1. Steam enters the finned tube bundle.

  2. Steam condenses inside the tubes, releasing latent heat.

  3. Heat transfers through the tube wall and fins to the passing air.

  4. Condensate exits the heater and returns to the boiler system.

Because steam condensation releases a large amount of heat, steam heaters provide very high heating capacity in a compact design.
