Organic Rankine Cycle Requires Dry Coolers
The Organic Rankine Cycle(ORC) is a thermal recycling system that is often used for low temperature heat recovery and utilization.
A dry cooler is an important part of this cycle.
An organic Rankine cycle system typically consists of the following major components:
Evaporator: It is used to absorb the heat energy released from the low temperature heat source, so that the organic work material (e.g. R134a, etc.) is evaporated into a gas.
Compressor: Compresses the gas in the evaporator to increase its pressure and temperature.
Condenser: Through the cooling medium (usually air or water) to make the high temperature and high pressure gas condensation into liquid, release heat.
Re-Cooler or Sub-Cooler: In some organic Rankine cycle systems, a dry cooler is added. The Re-Cooler is usually installed between the compressor and the condenser. Its function is to further cool the liquid mass, lowering its temperature to near ambient or even lower. This increases the efficiency of the system and reduces heat loss.
