What Is a Marine Box Cooler & How It Works
Our box cooler is a dedicated U-tube heat exchanger fully installed inside the vessel’s sea chest, removing the need for standalone seawater pumping units.
1. Hot freshwater, lube oil or hydraulic fluid circulates within alloy U-tubes;
2. Seawater washes over the exterior of the tube bundle: forced flow when sailing, natural thermal siphon convection during anchorage;
3. Heat transfers across tube walls into surrounding seawater to stabilize operating temperatures for main engines, generators and auxiliary machinery.
This passive cooling architecture cuts auxiliary power draw and eliminates vulnerable moving pump parts, drastically reducing long-term breakdown risks. Clients can select two core tube materials to match their sailing waters: aluminum brass for clean coastal routes, and 90/10 copper-nickel for silty estuaries, dredging zones and heavily polluted harbors.
