How Do our steam air heat exchangers work?

Steam is a quick and effective method of heating media, particularly air and liquids. Steam air heaters are made up of a series of tubes enclosed in a casing or duct. Steam is passed via the tubes, heating any air or gas that passes over them.

Steam heat exchangers have a wide range of applications, but they are particularly prized in areas where dependability and longevity are critical. Food, medications, and pricey industrial products are only a few examples.

Vrcoolertech develops and manufactures custom steam air heaters for industrial applications.

Steam air heat exchangers are devices designed to transfer heat from steam to air, providing a means of heating the air for various industrial and commercial applications.

The basic operation of a steam air heat exchanger involves the following steps:

Introduction of Steam:

Steam is introduced into the heat exchanger through a steam inlet.

The steam is typically at a high temperature and pressure.

Heat Transfer Surface:

The heat exchanger consists of tubes or other heat transfer surfaces where the steam flows.

The steam transfers its heat to the surface of these tubes, causing it to condense into water.

Condensation of Steam:

As the steam condenses, it releases a significant amount of latent heat.

The phase change from steam to water is crucial for efficient heat transfer.

Air Flow:

Air to be heated is drawn through the heat exchanger by a fan or blower.

The air flows over the external surface of the tubes where the steam has condensed.

Heat Transfer to Air:

Heat is transferred from the tubes to the surrounding air through convection.

The air absorbs the heat, causing its temperature to rise.

Condensate Removal:

The condensate formed from the steam condensation needs to be effectively removed from the system to maintain efficient heat transfer.

A condensate removal system, such as drains or traps, is typically employed.

Heated Air Outlet:

The now-heated air exits the heat exchanger through an outlet.

The heated air can be directed to the specific application or space where it is needed.
