A free cooler is an essential auxiliary heat rejection device integrated into industrial chiller systems, widely applied for energy saving, load reduction, and annual efficient operation of water-cooled and air-cooled chillers. By utilizing low ambient outdoor temperature in winter, night time and transition seasons, it replaces part or all of the chiller’s mechanical refrigeration, greatly cutting power consumption and operational costs.
The free cooler adopts a closed-loop heat exchange structure, matched with the chiller’s circulating water/glycol circuit:
When the outdoor ambient temperature is lower than the chilled water return temperature, the free cooler starts working.
Ambient natural air takes away heat from the process fluid through finned tube coils.
The cooled fluid directly supplies cooling demand, bypassing or shutting down the chiller compressor.
When ambient temperature rises, the system automatically switches back to chiller mechanical cooling mode.
Perfect realize automatic switching between free cooling mode and mechanical cooling mode.
Heat exchange coil: Copper tube + aluminum fin / stainless steel tube anticorrosive fin
Fan: Low noise axial fan, optional VFD speed regulation
Frame: Hot-dip galvanized steel / stainless steel frame
