Evaporators for Passenger Car Air Conditioning Systems
The evaporator in a passenger car air conditioning system is an important part of the system. The evaporator is usually installed in the interior of the vehicle, such as on top of the cabin or under the seats.
The main function of the evaporator is to cool the interior of the vehicle by converting the high-pressure liquid refrigerant into a low-temperature, low-pressure vapour. It does this by exchanging heat with the surrounding air. When the high-pressure liquid refrigerant enters the evaporator, the tiny tubes and sheets inside the evaporator cause the refrigerant to evaporate quickly and absorb heat from the surrounding air. This process results in a lowering of the surface temperature of the evaporator and the cooled air is fed into the interior of the cabin to provide a comfortable environment for the passengers.
The evaporator plays an important role as it is one of the heat exchangers in the air conditioning system. In conjunction with other components such as the condenser, compressor and expansion valve, it forms the refrigeration cycle of the air conditioning system. By cycling the refrigerant between the evaporator and condenser for compression, expansion, cooling and evaporation, the air-conditioning system is able to continuously cool the cabin.
