Evaporators with Both Collector Tubes and Dispenser Heads and Capillary Tubes
Dual Purpose Evaporation and Condensation
Evaporators with manifolds, distributor heads and capillary tubes are usually used in special refrigeration systems, such as heat pumps or in refrigeration equipment that requires flexibility to adapt to different operating conditions.
The following is the working principle of this kind of evaporator:
Manifold: Manifold is the inlet and outlet portion of the evaporator, which is used to introduce refrigerant into the evaporator and discharge the evaporated refrigerant. Manifolds are usually connected to other components of the refrigeration system, such as the compressor and condenser.
Distributor: The distributor is located in the inlet section of the evaporator and is used to distribute the refrigerant evenly throughout the capillary tubes of the evaporator. This ensures that the refrigerant absorbs heat evenly during the evaporation process.
Capillary Tube: A capillary tube is a small tube that restricts the flow of refrigerant and thus reduces its pressure. Through the capillary tube, the refrigerant flows from the high-pressure side (inlet of the evaporator) to the low-pressure side (outlet of the evaporator), during which the refrigerant evaporates and absorbs the surrounding heat.
In this configuration, the refrigerant enters the evaporator from the distributor head, and then the flow rate is restricted by the capillary tube, allowing the refrigerant to fully absorb heat during evaporation. The characteristic of this type of evaporator is that through the restriction of the capillary tube, the refrigerant is able to maintain a relatively low pressure during the evaporation process, thus achieving a low evaporation temperature. This is very important for applications requiring low temperature refrigeration.
At the same time, the structural design of this evaporator allows it to be used as a condenser in some cases. When it is necessary to switch the refrigeration system to heating mode, the function of the evaporator can be reversed, i.e. the external heat is released to the environment, thus achieving both evaporative cooling and condensing heating. This dual-purpose evaporator-condenser design increases the flexibility and applicability of the system.
