Chiller Hot Water Heating or Chilled Water SS Cooling Coils

In chiller systems, two types of coils are commonly used: hot water heating coils and chilled water stainless steel (SS) cooling coils.


Hot water heating coils are commonly used in heating applications, transferring heat from hot water to the air flowing over the coil. A boiler or other heat source can provide hot water, and warm air can be distributed throughout a building using a forced-air system or other techniques. Hot water heating coils are typically composed of copper or steel and can be coated or treated to avoid corrosion or other damage.


Cooled water Stainless steel cooling coils, on the other hand, are utilized in cooling applications to remove heat from the air moving through the coil. A chiller is often used to supply chilled water, which circulates cold water through the cooling coil to absorb heat from the air. Cooled air can then be circulated throughout a building using a forced-air system or other means. Because stainless steel cooling coils are less prone to corrosion than other materials such as copper or aluminum, they are chosen in applications where corrosion is a concern.

Size: The coil's size should be determined by the system's heat transfer requirements, as well as the available space and airflow requirements.


Flow rate: To guarantee optimal heat transfer and energy efficiency, the flow rate of hot or chilled water through the coil should be carefully managed.


Pressure drop: To achieve optimal performance and minimize energy consumption, the pressure drop across the coil should be minimized.


Maintenance: To maintain long-term performance and minimize downtime, the coils should be constructed for easy cleaning and maintenance.
