Atmospheric Condenser in Ship

An atmospheric condenser (also known as an exhaust or dump condenser) on a ship is a vital heat exchanger that turns low-pressure exhaust steam from auxiliary engines, equipment, or surplus steam generators back into liquid water so it can be safely reclaimed and reused in the marine boiler system.

Core Functions

Water Recovery: Captures steam drainage and returns pure liquid to the hot well or cascade tank, preventing fresh water loss.

Surplus Steam Management: Dumps excess steam generated by exhaust gas boilers when demand drops, stabilizing system pressure.

Efficiency Boost: Recaves thermal energy and reduces the need for constant chemical treatment of raw makeup feed water.

How It Works

Seawater or low-temperature fresh water circulates through internal tubes as a cooling medium.

Exhaust steam enters the shell side, hits the cold tube surfaces, and condenses at or near atmospheric pressure.

The resulting condensate drains down into the hot well to form a closed-loop feedwater cycle for the ship's boilers.
